Our Mission
We know we don’t have to tell you!! Things are changing!! 21st century political, economic and strategizing challenges are significantly different from those of the past. For example, in 1900 noted 20th century theorist and economist W. E. B. Du Bois posited – correctly, we believe – that “race” would be the defining divisive force of the 20th Century. By 1978, however, sociologist William Julius Wilson proposed that “social class” would replace race in the 21st century. Increasingly, gender and regionality have also grown in influence.
Additional emergent nuances will become apparent in the 21st century. They will reveal local, national and – yes — global opportunities for profitable economic, social and political change. These new challenges will result in alliances and social arrangements never previously encountered or even anticipated. To compete in this new climate, wise institutions will develop new and innovative tactics for educating, organizing and mobilizing their constituents.
Kouper & Associates, LLC offers speakers, trainings and consulting services. Each is heavily informed by intimate day-to- day experiences creating, building and leading the Fight For $15 (FF$15) from inception in 2012-2018. “Six years ago, on November 29, 2012, a small group of fast food workers in New York launched one of the most successful movements of the 21st century when they walked off the job and demanded $15 an hour and the right to form a union. Since then, the worker-led movement known as the Fight For $15 has inspired a wave of action on minimum wage, helping 22 million low wage workers throughout the country win $68 billion in raises to date. Thanks to the movement, income inequality and flagging paychecks are now among the most urgent economic issues of our time, and a $15 minimum wage is now a widely accepted benchmark. It is a key part of the platform of one of the major political parties, and lawmakers are planning to reintroduce a $15 federal minimum wage bill in 2019.” (Yannet Lathrop, National Employment Law Project, Data Brief, 11/ 29/2018)
Over time and under the auspices of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Kendall served as a lead union organizer/agitator and later became Executive Director of “OUR DC (SEIU: Fight for a Fair Economy).” From 2012-2018, he was National Organizing Director of the Fight For $15, AKA: The Civil Rights Movement of the 21st Century (Amy B. Dean, Aljazeera America, 6/22/2015). In 2017, Kendall became President of the National Fast Food Workers Union.
The famed Morehouse College of Atlanta, GA. is Kendall’s alma mater. It was there that he began his community service work at the Brisbane Institute. His degree is in Political Science.
